Moses Drama

Narrator: God’s special people, the Israelites, lived in Egypt. They worked very
hard to please the king by building many different things, buildings
               and pyramids.

Israelite 1: This is hard work!

Israelite 2: It is so hot!

Narrator: They were very unhappy, so they prayed to God.

Israelite 2: Let’s ask God to take us out of Egypt.

Israelite 1: Okay

Narrator: God then sent Moses and his brother Aaron, to ask the King or Pharaoh
to let the Israelites leave Egypt.

Moses and Aaron go before Pharaoh.

Moses: Let my people go!

Pharaoh: NO! Leave me, now!

Narrator: Moses and Aaron go to Pharaoh many times. After a long period of
time and many miracles performed by God through Moses; Pharaoh
finally allows the Israelites to leave Egypt.

Israelite 1: God answered our prayers!

Israelite 2: I’m ready to leave! Are you packed up?

Israelite 1: Yes, let’s follow Moses and Aaron.

Narrator: God showed Moses and Aaron which way to lead the people of
Israel- using a pillar of cloud during the day and a pillar of fire during
the night. If the pillar stopped, so did the people. If the pillar moved,
              so did the people.

Moses: The pillar of cloud has stopped.

Aaron: We will camp here, right Moses?

Moses: Yes, we are to follow God’s leading.

Israelites make camp

Narrator: Meanwhile, back in Egypt, Pharaoh changed his mind.

Pharaoh: Who is going to build my next pyramid with all the Israelites gone?
Who is going to do all the work now? Get my army now!!!!!

Narrator: So Pharaoh called his army together and they set out after the
Israelites. When the Israelites saw Pharaoh’s army behind them, they
got scared. They called out to Moses.

Israelite 2: Moses, we can see Pharaoh’s army coming after us!

Israelite 1: They will kill us all!

Moses: “Do not be afraid and let God do his work.”

Narrator: God told Moses to hold out his staff over the water of the Red Sea
which was in front of the Israelites.

Moses holds out his staff

Narrator: A mighty wind separated the water.

Fan blows on sheets and they part

Narrator: The Israelites crossed the Red Sea by walking on a dry path.

Israelite 2: The ground under our feet is dry, it’s not mud.

Israelite 1: Our God is a mighty God.

Israelite 3: Run, I see Pharaoh’s army!!

Narrator: God confused the army of Pharaoh. They didn’t know which way to go
and the wheels of their chariots came off.

Israelite 1: Look their chariots are breaking apart!

Narrator: The Israelites put their trust in God and he saved them.

Moses: Pharaoh’s army will not hurt us. We will stop and pray and worship God
                to thank Him
for the miracle of today.

Everyone bows in prayer

MOM: I never said that you could though and you need to obey me.

CARMEN: I know it was wrong. I am sorry Mom.

             your lunch money every day?

Ricardo: Have you SEEN him? He is so much bigger than I am!

Josephina: You need to eat lunch. You need to learn to stand up for yourself!

Ricardo: But how????

Josephina: If I were you, I would pray and ask God to help me and to give me

Josephina: Come on Ricardo. You can’t let him keep taking your lunch money.
I know! Why don’t we pray right now?

Ricardo: Alright, that sounds like a great idea!

Josephina and Ricardo bow their heads in prayer.

Josephina: Dear God, please help Ricardo to be brave and strong. Give him the
courage he needs to stand up to Diego to keep his lunch money. In
                your name we pray ….

Ricardo and Josephina: Amen!

Josephina: Look! Here comes Diego.

Ricardo: I don’t know about this …

Josephina: Remember, God is giving you the courage you need!

          Josephina steps back

Ricardo: No, Diego, I will not. I’m going to get my lunch today.

Diego: Wait – what did you say?

Ricardo: I won’t give you my lunch money anymore, Diego!

Diego: No one has ever told me “NO” before. Why are you?

Ricardo: Because I asked God to help me and give me the courage to stand up to you.

Diego: Why would God help a little kid like you?

Ricardo: Because He loves me. I can tell you more about God or you can come
to church with me if you want to.

Diego: Well, I just might go with you. God must be strong if he can help you.

Esther

NARRATOR: Esther and her family were from a different country than the
country they were now living in and were called Jews. Esther’s
cousin Mordecai helped raise her. When Esther was a young lady
the King was looking for a new Queen. He had many beautiful
women to choose from. Esther is the one he chooses.
Kind puts crown on Esther’s head.

KING: Everyone is invited to a banquet to celebrate Esther as Queen!

NARRATOR: During the banquet two guards are arguing at the gate. Mordecai
is at the gate and hears them.

Guards talk about killing the King.

MORDECAI: Queen Esther, you must tell the King that I heard two of his guards
                  planning to kill him.

NARRATOR: Esther sends a message to the King about the guards plans. The
King had it recorded that Mordecai reported the plan so it could
                  be stopped.

Scribe writes in royal book.

KING: I am going to promote you and honor, Haman. Everyone is to recognize
                   you as an official.

All the other official bow to Haman BUT NOT Mordecai.

NARRATOR: One of the officials goes to Haman and tells him about Mordecai.

OFFICIAL: Hamon, Mordecai did not kneel to honor you.

HAMAN: I need to find a way to destroy Mordecai and his whole family.

Haman goes to the King.

HAMAN: King, there is a certain people in your kingdom whose customs are
different and they do not obey your laws, it is not in the King’s
                     best interest to tolerate this.

The King becomes angry.

HAMAN: I think you should make a decree to destroy them.

KING: Here is my special ring. Do as you please with those people.

NARRATOR: The people throughout the kingdom were notified of the day that
they were to destroy all the Jews.

Pause

NARRATOR: Mordecai learns of this decree and is very upset. One of Esther’s
servants, Hathach, sees Mordecai is upset and tells her.

ESTHER: Go and find out why Mordecai is so upset.

Mordecai gives Hathach a copy of the decree who then gives it to Esther.

HATHACH: Queen, your cousin Mordecai is upset because this decree that
has been issued. He asks that you go to the King and beg for
mercy and plead with him for your people.

ESTHER: Go tell Mordecai that everyone knows that for any man or woman
who goes into the inner court without the King’s summons; that
they will be put to death UNLESS the King extends his golden
scepter to them and spares their life.

NARRATOR: Hathach tells this to Mordecai and he sends back these words.

HATHACH: Mordecai says, “Do not think because you are in the King’s house
that you are safe. It may be that God has put you where you are
                  to save his people.”

ESTHER: Please ask Mordecai to gather all of our people and ask them to fast
and pray for me for three days. Then I will go to the King.

NARRATOR: So Mordecai did as the Queen asked.

Mordecai tells everyone to fast and pray.

NARRATOR: Esther puts on her royal robes and stands in the inner court. The
King sees her and extends his scepter.

KING: Queen Esther, what do you want? I would give you up to half to kingdom.

ESTHER: Would you and Haman come to a banquet I have prepared tonight?

King turns to servant

KING: GO! Get Haman so we can go to the banquet the Queen has prepared.

King and Haman go to banquet.

KING: Esther, tell me what you want?

ESTHER: Please come to another banquet tomorrow night and I will tell you
              my request.

Haman is very happy but as he passes the gate Mordecai does not kneel to him.
He tells his wife and friends.

HAMAN: I’m the only person the Queen invited to go with the King to her
banquet. I get to go again tomorrow night! BUT I am not happy when
I see Mordecai refusing to honor me.

ZERESH: He should honor you, the King said so.

FRIEND: Have a gallows built and ask the King to hang Mordecai. The you can
go to the Queen’s banquet and be happy.

NARRATOR: That night the King had trouble sleeping.

KING: Go get me the royal book and read to me. Maybe then I will sleep.

SERVANT: On the day that Mordecai overhead two of your guards planning to
kill you, he reported it to save your life.

KING: How was Mordecai honored for being so loyal?

SERVANT: Nothing was done for him, sir.

Haman enters

KING: Haman, what should be done for a man who I want to honor?

HAMAN: Give him a royal robe that you have worn and a horse you have ridden
and lead that man around the kingdom so everyone can see him.

KING: Go and get a robe and give it to Mordecai. Get a horse and put Mordecai
on it and them led it through the city streets shouting, “This is what is
done for a man who delights the King.”

NARRATOR: Haman does as the King says then rushes home upset again. While
Haman was complaining to his wife and friends a servant arrives to take
            him to the Queen’s banquet.

KING: Esther, what is your request?

ESTHER: O, King, grant me my life and spare the lives of my people. We are to
              be slaughtered.

KING: Who is the man who has dared to do such a thing?

ESTHER: HIM! Points to Haman.

NARRATOR: The King is so angry he leaves. Haman begins to beg Esther for his
life. As the King returns he sees Haman so close to his Queen and
                   becomes even angrier.

SERVANT: O, King, Haman built gallows for Mordecai.

KING: Hang Haman on his own gallows!

Guards take Haman out.

NARRATOR: The King then gave his ring to Mordecai to make a decree that all
the Jews were to defend themselves.

traveled a long ways on a donkey because the king
ordered everyone to go to their hometown to be counted
                   for a census.

Joseph walks up to Mary and says “We need to travel to
Bethlehem to be counted.” Joseph and Mary pack up
and start walking across the stage area in a zigzag

Puppet 1: What is a census?

Puppet 2: A census is when the government wants to know how
many people live in the land.

Joseph and Mary stop and rest along the way.

Puppet 2: Joseph and Mary arrived in Bethlehem to be counted.
It was very crowded. After that Mary knew it was time for

Shepherds arrive from opposite side of stage

Puppet 1: It has a meaning?

Puppet 3 and person enters

Puppet 3: Oh, oh, oh! I know what it means!

Puppet 1: Well….

Puppet 2: Well, it’s a very common, traditional candy that is around
               at Christmas time.

Puppet 3: The way I learned the story is: If you turn it this way,
(person demonstrates) it looks like a J for Jesus. We
celebrate that he was born on Christmas Day.

Puppet 2: If you turn it the other way (person demonstrates) it  looks like ...

Puppet 1: A cane?

Puppet 3: A staff like the shepherds used. The shepherds were
the first to find out about the birth of Jesus from an angel.

Puppet 1: So, why is it red and white?

Puppet 3: The prophet, Isaiah, tells us we are healed by Jesus’ strips.
Before Jesus died on the cross for us, he was whipped
                many times.

Puppet 1: The red strips are to remind us of Jesus’ suffering and the
               blood he shed.

Puppet 3: And when we give out lives to Jesus, his blood washes away
our sins and makes us pure and white as snow.

Puppet 2: Like the white on the candy cane?

Puppet 1: That’s right!

Puppet 2: WOW, I never knew there was a story about this really great
               Christmas candy.

Puppet 1: So now that you know the story, it’s your turn to go and tell
someone The Candy Cane Story. Here’s a candy cane for you
and one to show others as you tell the story!

Puppet 2: Great! Thanks! I’m going to go tell my cousins, Aaron and
Nick right now! They don’t know the story at all.
